Mykonos is a Greek island, part of the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. The most of population live in the largest town, Mykonos, which lies on the west coast. The town is also known as Chora (i.e. the Town in Greek, following the common practice in Greece when the name of the island itself is the same as the name of the principal town). According to mythology, Mykonos was formed from the petrified bodies of giants killed by Hercules. And the island took its name from the grandson of Apollo, “Mykonos”.
It is one of the first Greek islands that had developed tourist. The nightlife of Mykonos is considered one of the most vibrant and intense in Europe.Tourism is a major industry and Mykonos is well known for its vibrant nightlife and for being a gay-friendly destination with many establishments catering for the LGBT community. The island’s most famous place, is called Little Venice because of its resemblance to Venice.
Mykonos’s nickname is “The Island of the Winds”. The most famous beaches of the island are: Agios Sostis, Panormos, Kalo Livadi, Ftelia, Agrari, Agia Anna,cParadise, Super Paradise, Paraga, Ornos and the most famous of all, Psarou .
